At age 9, William departed Glasgow, Scotland on Apr 27, 1912 with his mother and sister, Mary, on the ship Columbia, and arrived in NY on May 6, 1912. Joined his father, Thomas Sr., sister Margaret, and brother Thomas Jr. at 43 Duffield St, in Brooklyn, NY.

Listed in 1915 New York State Census, Kings County, New York City, age 12, at 29 Coffey St, living with father Thomas, 49, mother Margaret, 40, and siblings Margaret, 19, Thomas Jr, 16, Mary, 14, and Katherine, 1. Thomas worked as a sailmaker. Daughter Margaret worked as a laundry helper. Thomas Jr. worked as an electrician helper. All born in Scotland and listed as aliens, except Katherine who was born in the USA. Also living there was Margaret's mother, Margaret Carchrie, 60 (actually 65), born in Scotland. William married later in life. He married Helen "Tootsie" Tracy, who was previously married with three children. Vacationed or spent time in Haverstraw, NY (north of NY City along the Hudson River). Had no children of his own. Died of heart attack at age 55.

Lived at 83 Sullivan St., Brooklyn, NY before his death on Nov 9, 1958. Buried in Long Island National Cemetery on Nov 13, 1958, Section V, Grave 2600. Survived by his wife Helen.
