"Funeral rites for Robert Lee Abernethy (sic), sixty-three, of Morganton, formerly of West Hickory,who died in a Morganton hospital after a lingering illness of almost seven years, were conducted in the chapel of the Hickory Funeral home at two'clock this afternoon, with the Rev. Cecil Hefner officiating. Burial was made in Arney's cemetery.
"Mr. Abernethy, born in Burke County April 13, 1886, a son of the alte David and laura Jane Frye Abernethy, is survived by his wife, the former Miss Anna Preslar; one daughter; one sister, Mrs. D.D. Whisnant of Hickory . . .and two brothers, Edd and Walter Abernethy of Hickory. . .
Mr. Abernethy was a brick mason."
