Ethel Cherry was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Daniel and Ethel McCormack. She had one brother, Robert (Mac) and four sisters, Lillian, Marge, Rita and Ruth Jean. To her family Back East, she was always "Lovie".In 1939, she married Norbert Cherry and soon after they moved to California. They had two daughters, Mary Ellen Garcia and Cathy Cincis. Ethel leaves 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to her own family, Ethel was a foster mother for many years. Her heart always belonged to children and was happiest taking care of any child who needed a home or a hug. She particularly enjoyed the years her sister, Marge lived with her. Ethel became involved in Special Olympics and Desert Haven. She loved playing cards, making rosaries for the Church and spending time with family and friends.
