HALLETTSVILLE - Leona E. Scheffer, 88, of Hallettsville, passed away Friday, Dec. 23, 2011. She was born Mar. 18, 1923, in Lavaca County to the late Frank and Emilie Dusek Melnar. She married Milton "Moon" Scheffer on Mar. 3, 1946 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville. She was a member of V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Peter Lutheran Church.
She is survived by 3 sons, Wayne Scheffer and wife Carleen of San Marcos, Travis Scheffer and wife Darnell of College Station, and Kennie Scheffer of Kyle; 2 sister-in-laws, Viola Scheffer of Hallettsville, and Dorothy Melnar of Weimar; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Sandra Sue Scheffer; 3 brothers, 1 at infancy, Oscar, and Emil Melnar; and 4 sisters, Agnes Grunewald, Lillie Helweg, Zilfa Boethel, and Vlasta Michalcik.
Visitation will be held 4 p.m. on Monday Dec. 26, 2011 at Kubena Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at St. Peter Lutheran Church of Hallettsville, with Rev. Dr. Alan Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Hallettsville City Cemetery.
