Mr. Adkins retired after 30 years with International Harvester in Ft. Wayne. He also managed Doc's Hardware Store in Albion, IN for 10 years. Robert was a resident of Huntington for the past three years and had lived in Albion, IN prior to that for 25 years. He graduated from Haviland High School in Haviland, Ohio. Robert served in the Korean War with the United States Army.
Mr. Adkins was born February 25, 1934 in Oak Hill, Ohio, to James and Mary Hazel (Kuhn) Adkins. He married Gloria J. Wilson on September 10, 1976 in Huntington.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years - Gloria J. Adkins of Huntington; one son - Robert Adkins, Jr. of Ft. Wayne, IN; two daughters - Kristina (Harrison) Combs of Ft. Wayne, IN and Carol Ann (Larry) McGee of Granite City, Illinois; 2 stepsons - Terry Beekman of Traverse City, Michigan and Steve Beekman of Columbia City, IN; five stepdaughters - Gail (Mike) Baum of Roanoke, IN, Rhonda (Greg) Kenline of Albion, IN, Kay (Terry) Pfister of Huntington, Pam (John) Green of South Bend, IN and Missie (Brad) Tempest of Columbus, IN; two sisters - Delores Smith of Muncy, Pennsylvania and Elizabeth Yearwood of Ft. Wayne, IN; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Three half brothers - James Adkins of Sycamore, Ohio, David Adkins of Bucyrus, Ohio and Bob Adkins of Oak Hill, Ohio; and two half sisters - Susan (Don) Nichols of Jackson, Ohio and Cathy Brown of Oak Hill, Ohio, also survive. Sons - Rick Adkins and Tony Adkins, and daughters - Brenda Martin and Susie Adkins preceded him in death.
Visitation will be 4 - 8 p.m. Friday (November 10, 2006) at Bailey-Love Mortuary. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday (November 11, 2006) at Bailey-Love Mortuary with Pastor Russell Buzzard officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington. Military graveside services will be performed by the V. F. W. Post #2689.
