"Mr. J. W. Breathed, a well-known citizen and magistrate of Lynchburg, died Friday night after a protracted illness. He was a native of Washington county, Md., and father of Major James Breathed, a gallant Confederate officer, who was killed during the late war."
Note: Maj. James Breathed was wounded several times during the war, but died in 1870.
