James Elmer Bannon of 75 Main St., Wethersfield, died Sunday in Hartford Hospital. He leaves his wife, Prudence Belden Bannon, a son, Mahlon S. Bannon of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth G. Sharpe of Wethersfield; two sisters, Mrs. John R. Sexton of Meriden and Mrs. Stanley Fillow of Westport; a brother, Walter S. Bannon of Glastonbury; and seven grandchildren. Services will be held at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Wethersfield. Burial will be in Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. Friends may call at the James T. Pratt Funeral Home, 71 Farmington Ave., today from 7 to 9 p.m. Published in the Hartford Courant, 22 Sept. 1958.

Elmer was born at Robertsville, Monmouth Co., New Jersey on 18 July 1880; died at Hartford, Hartford Co., Connecticut on 21 September 1958 aged 78, of lung cancer; was buried at Wethersfield Village Cemetery [Conn. James was the son of James BANNON (born in Vermont circa 1854; died 1919; buried at Wethersfield, Connecticut) and Emma E. LAMBERTSON (born in New Jersey circa 1859; died 1922; was buried Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut). His parents married circa 1878 [1910 U.S. Census, Wethersfield, entry 489/571].

James was a clerk for an insurance company (1910), housepainter (1920, 1939-45), paper hanger, custodian (1949), and school crossing guard [Greater Hartford Dir., 1939-1941, 1943-4, 1949].

James married Prudence Griswold Belden at Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut on 4 June 1907 [Conn. State VR, Marriages, filed 6 June 1907].

Prudence joined the Congregational Church at Wethersfield in 1892, J. Elmer joined the same church in 1921 [Present members, Manual of the Congregational Church, Wethersfield, Conn., Oct. 1893 and 1 Sept. 1925].

Prudence G. and J. Elmer resided on Broad St., Wethersfield, Hartford Co., Connecticut, from 1911-1916 and at 76 Main Street, Wethersfield, from at least 1929 to 1963 [1910 U.S. Census, Connecticut, Hartford Co., Wethersfield, entry 461/533; Greater Hartford Dir., 1911-1964].
