He was born on June 27, 1924 in the Town of Germania, Shawano County, the son of the late Julian and Julia (Wierzba) Stroik.
He was united in marriage to Christine Firkus on June 26, 1948 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway. She survives.
After marriage the couple lived in the Milwaukee area where Walter was employed at Bucyrus Erie (International) Inc. for 37 years. He retired in 1985 and the couple then moved to the Town of Germania. Walter enjoyed gardening, listening and dancing to polka music and going to the casino. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Christine; two daughters, Judy Stroik, Wittenberg and Jennifer (Gary) Valentine, Milwaukee; two sons, James Stroik, Edgar and Jerold (Barbara) Stroik, Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond (Pat) Stroik, Wittenberg and Victor Stroik, Oak Creek, WI; and two sisters, Esther Steinke, Wausau and Emily Filtz, Eagle River.
In addition to his parents Walter was preceded in death by five brothers and one grandson.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Galloway. The Rev. Herbert Zoromski will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by the Bloecher-Johnson American Legion Post # 502, Wittenberg. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9:00AM until the time of services at the church.
