Elmer Glen "Bud" Ewy

On April 19, 2009, Elmer Glen "Bud" Ewy went to be with his Lord and Savior. Bud was born on March 1, 1921, in Perry, Oklahoma, to Rudolph and Ann (Smith) Ewy. He grew up and attended Perry Public Schools. In May of 1942 he volunteered and entered the United States Army Air Corps serving in France, Belgium and Germany during which time he was awarded three bronze stars. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the 253rd Infantry Division in 1946. Following his discharge he moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma, and began working for the Blackwell Zinc Company. He married Geraldine Bush on September 27, 1946, and they made Blackwell their home. He continued working at the smelter until the plant closed in 1974. While working for Blackwell Zinc, he studied and became a gunsmith and operated Bud's Gun Shop from his home in Blackwell. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and attending sporting events. He sponsored a Blackwell little league baseball team called "Bud's Gun Shop." He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with all of his heart. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine of the home; a daughter, Cathy Peetoom and husband Robert of Nardin, Oklahoma; a son, Jeffrey Ewy and wife Connie of Louisburg, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Glen Ewy Sr.; and four sisters, Hellen Ingmire, Betty Balzer, Faye Schelenburg and Delores Moore.

Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 22nd in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blackwell with the Rev. Tom Ramsey of Ponca City officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery with military rites performed by the Blackwell American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Serving as casketbearers will be Robert Peetoom, Mike Ewy, Ron Clinton, Gary Ingmire, Max Ruggs and Jim Irwin. Honorary casketbearers will be Ryan Peetoom, Travis Peetoom, Larry Ewy Jr., Joseph Ewy, Mitchell Ewy, Bradey Ewy, Billy Ewy, Tyler Ewy, and Richard Ashford.
