He was born April 14, 1912, in Brown County, the son of Ellsworth and Flossie (Smith) Rittenhouse.
He was a 1929 graduate of Anderson High School. He worked for Strock Brothers Hardware from 1929 to 1978 full time and from 1981 to 1996 part time three days a week.
He was a member of Wesley Free Methodist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He lived in Anderson most of his life and moved to Franklin United Methodist Home in Franklin, in 1998 and then in 2008 to Paoli, to live near his daughter.
Survivors include his daughter, Joyce (Ron) Benham of Paoli; his son, Tom (Jan) Rittenhouse of Columbus, Ind.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; his sister, Thelma Price of Fowler, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three wives.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson, with Dan Smetzer officiating. Burial will be in Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
