John joined the United States Air Force in 1962 and served 18 months of his 4 year term in Okinawa, Japan before receiving an honorable discharge while stationed in Colorado Springs, CO in November, 1966. After his discharge he married Barbara A Malewiski on October 7, 1967 in Denmark, WI. They have one daughter.
John had many interests in his lifetime in addition to his very important time with his family. This included being a licensed airline pilot with full instrument rating as well as being an avid sports and bowling fan. He bowled on several leagues in his lifetime, working many times with kids as a bowling coach. While living in Albuquerque, NM, on May 7, 1995, which was his daughters birthday, he achieved a perfect bowling game of 300 and earned a silver bowling ring. John's death was prompted by an accident he had while bowling with his league in Cabot, AR. He was in the hospital for 3 days before passing on as a result of heart failure in Veterans Memorial Hospital in Little Rock, AR.
According to his last wishes, his remains were cremated and placed at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, AR. On December 21, 2011, a memorial service was held in his honor at Arkansas Funeral Care Chapel in Jacksonville, AR. He is survived by his daughter, five brothers, and two sisters.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Helen E York Pollard & Sidney W Pollard, two sisters, Martha J Harris and Janet R Smith and three brothers, Jimmy R Pollard, Sidney L Pollard, Jr, and Timmy L Pollard.
