Mathias the son of Peter and Suzanna Frast. He emigrated to America with his cousin and sister Margaret (who married Franz Engel) in 1857 on the ship Sarah Park and stayed in Chicago, Il for the next several years. He then settled in New Market, MN and then on a farm in Vermillion. He was the father of 14 children, 4 with his first wife, Maria Klasen, and 10 with Katherine Beljong, who he married in 1871. Math was interested in experimenting with hybrid fruit trees and his orchard was still producing in 1970. In 1875, he served in the Minnesota State Legislature. Math and Katherine lived on the family farm in Vermillion until about 1910 when he moved to Hastings where he died at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 21 days.
