Luther Matthew "Matt" Chaney was the son of Hezekiah Chaney & Deborah "Devey" Brogdon; he had the following siblings: Albert, James William B., Phoebe Jane, Susan Catherine, George A., Alfred "Alf" Hezekiah, John Franklin "Frank," Lucy Lee, Alice L., and Robert Chaney.

He married on 11 May 1898, (1) Leda McClure, daughter of John Henry McClure & Serepta Caroline Morris. Matt & Leda had one daughter: Norma Chaney b. abt 1906, married on Dec. 26, 1924, in Chicago, IL, Oscar Lynn Frensley b. Mar. 10, 1897, in Duncan, IT, d. Sept. 01, 1928, in Chicago, IL.

He married (2) Artie Mae Cartwright b. abt 1885 in AR; they had two daughters: Mrs. E. B. Thomasson of Duncan, OK, & Mrs. Caryl Bender of Page, OK.

Matt was educated in South America & in Europe. His obit states that he graduated from Buckner College & later attended Northwestern Univ. at Evanston, ILL. In Paris, he studied at the Sorbonne & was later a pupil of Sigmund Freud at the Univ. of Vienna. Matt spoke 8 languages, was interpreter for the US in Indian Territory and rep. of export-import cos. of the US, Canada. During WWII he performed confidential service for the US government for which he was cited. He was a lawyer & international lawyer in LaPorte, IN, & in Little Rock, AR.
