Altoona Tribune, 15 May 1919 - WILLIAMSBURG. Mrs. W. A. McCORMICK, one of Williamsburg's oldest residents in point of residence, lies critically ill at her home on Second street. She was stricken suddenly Sunday morning, and since that time has been in an unconsious condition. Slight hope is entertained of her recovery.
. . . Mrs. W. A. McCORMICK. Our Williamsburg correspondent sends the following: At her home on Second street, Williamsburg, Virginia GARVIN, wife of W. A. McCORMICK, died at 12:45 Wednesday morning, after an illness of three days' duration, death ensuing as the result of the final development of Bright's disease. Suddenly Sunday morning she was stricken while attending to her household duties with the symptoms of a stroke shortly afterwards lapsing into unconsciousness, from which she never rallied. Born February 27, 1843, at Williamsburg, the eldest daughter of Benjamin C. and Catherine (AKE) GARVIN, she was reared and educated at Williamsburg, attending the old Williamsburg academy. She possessed a keen and receptive mind, which she retained unto the end. United in marriage January 16, 1866, to William Adams McCORMICK by Rev. John A. DIXON, then pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, Williamsburg. Three years ago the venerable couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and now the silver-haired partner, the companion of more than half a century, mourns her going. She was a member of the Presbyterian church, a devout Christian woman, adhering rigidly to the principles of the faith as she interpreted them. Besides her husband, she is survived by one sister and one brother - Mrs. R. E. SPENCER and J. M. GARVIN, both of Williamsburg. Funeral will occur Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence, services in charge of Rev. J. C. KELLY, former pastor.
