Virginia J. Luft, 84, of Elizabeth Township, passed away Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, in UPMC Mercy. Born July 13, 1927, in Sewickley, she was a daughter of the late Domenic and Mariangela (Veshio) Troise. Virginia was a director for Religious Education at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Elizabeth Township, where she was a parishioner, starting as a volunteer in the early 1960s. She was very active in the church, serving as a member of the Church First Parish Council, organizing the annual Parish Share Campaign for St. Michael's, organizing the original pledge drive to build the present church's location, active in the Christian Mothers, co-chairing, for several years, the summer festivals, volunteering at the annual fish fries and singing in the parish choir. Virginia also was a former assistant dean for the cluster of parishes that formed the Mon-Yough Deanery and was a mentor to many of the Religious Education Coordinators. Her biggest joy with her church service was to bring young children to the Sacraments and take her high school youth group to the Divine Redeemer to sing Christmas carols to the Sisters. Virginia was also a former member of the Elizabeth Forward Community Chorus. In her early 40s, she went back to college to pursue her degree in theology at Seton Hill University. Virginia also loved making chocolates and personalized greeting cards for the holidays for her family and friends. She joins her husband, the late Harold Michael Luft. Besides her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Folino; stepfather, Frank Folino; stepsisters, Eva DeMaio, Mary Catalano, Jenny Folino and Florence Folino; and stepbrother, Bernard Folino.
