Jean Roberts Bauer, 87, passed away on December 5, 2011 at St. Dominic Hospital. She was born in Bay Springs, MS on November 12, 1924 to Willie Irene and Wylie Roberts. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, December 9 at Lakewood Memorial Park with arrangements handled by Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street.

While working for Southern Bell Telephone Company, Jean met her future husband William Cecil Bauer. Jean and Cecil enjoyed extensive traveling, camping, and spending time at their beach home in Florida. Jean had a talent for decorating and enjoyed putting her talent to use in the homes they acquired during their marriage. Jean and Cecil enjoyed a long and happy marriage until his death in 2007.

While living in Birmingham, AL, Jean was active in the Birmingham Symphony, President of the Red Cross Fund Raising Committee, and other civic activities. She enjoyed people and made friends easily.

The political future of our country was of great interest to Jean. She kept up with current events and donated to the causes she believed in.

She was a much loved wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents Willie Irene and Wylie Roberts, husband William Cecil Bauer, sister Frances Harris, and brother Dick Roberts. She is survived by her brother Bill Roberts (Betty) Atlanta, GA; nephews Jim Harris (Libby) Charlotte, NC, and Scott Roberts (Kam) Baltimore, MD; nieces Sandra Tucker (Davey) Jackson, MS, Suzy Becker (Karl) Warrington, VA, Betsy Williams (Tony) Sedona, AZ, Gwen Townsend, Cleveland, TN, Laurie Sibley, Baton Rouge, LA, Jane Blount, Baton Rouge, LA; and several great nephews and nieces.

Special thanks to the staff of St. Catherine's Village for their loving care and support of Jean during the years she was a resident there and to her good friend Esslene Muse.
