Harley Maltby Services were held on Tues.,Sept.10,1974 at The Assembly of God Church in Elk City,Ok.with Rev.Curtis Newton,pastor officiating.His burial followed at Fairlawn Cemetery in Elk City,Ok.with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. He had died of apparent heart attack at home that evening after he laid down for a nap.He was
60 yrs old.
He was born June 16,1914 at Cheyenne,OK.His family lived near Strong City where they farmed and ranched.He started helping his father "Big Ike"from the time he was a small child standing on a wood crate in helping butcher their own cattle to help feed the whites and the Indians without anything in return during the depression of 1930s.After moving to the new town of Hammon,Ok.His mom and dad started the first meat market and opened the first cafe in town.His family lived in the back so they could keep watch the children and work.In July 21,1937 he married Cora Neff in Clinton and later they moved to Elk City.They have lived in Sayre and Cheyenne,Ok he worked with his Uncle Willard (Bill) Jarvis in Jarvis Grocery, then
they moved back to Elk City.Where he had been employed as a butcher in several markets in Elk City.He helped start Byrds Locker Plant in Elk City on South Main.When he died he was still working at the same place with the new owners of Holders Locker Plant.He loved to play dominos,and take his family to the lakes where he enjoyed fishing and swimming as much as the kids.He attended the Assembly of God Church.He is survived by his wife Cora Ann(Neff) Maltby,two children Donald Joe Maltby and wife Earlene of Manistee,Mich.and Linda Doshier and husband Dale of Elk City.1 Foster daughter Sandra Vincent still in the home .2 grandchildren Donnie Jr. and Jeanna Maltby Manistee,Mich.And Two sisters Mrs.Lawrence(Verda}Dick of Elk City and Mrs.Eldred(Oletta)Trent,Chickasha.Many nieces and nephews and special friends from over the years,he always made friends where ever he was and always had a smile on his face.Always trusted everyone with business on a handshake.
He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac and Myrtle Maltby ,a brother Willie Lloyd and a grandson Randy Doshier.
He was 6'1" with Blonde hair and blue-green eyes
