Master craftsman former fisherman, furniture builder
HARWICH - Wallace H. Cahoon Jr., 75, a master craftsman, died at home yesterday of cancer.
He was the husband of Ernestine Cahoon.
Born in Yarmouth, he was educated in Onset and Falmouth, graduating from Falmouth High School.
After graduating, he became a commercial fisherman and during the 1950s and 1960s owned and operated Capeway Builders in Falmouth. He lived in Falmouth most of his life and moved to Harwich 20 years ago, becoming a master craftsman.
Mr. Cahoon retired in 1992 and for the past few years worked for the Mill Store in Harwich, building unfinished furniture.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, antiquing, yard sales, gardening and watching auto races at Louden, N.H.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, Misty E. Cahoon of Harwich, Carolyn Reed and Jane Neill, both of East Falmouth two sons, Wallace H. Cahoon III of East Falmouth and Ronald Cahoon of Falmouth two brothers, Alex Cahoon of Attleboro and Francis Cahoon of Quincy a sister, Rita Cahoon of Falmouth several stepchildren, including Anita Schuck of Falmouth seven grandchildren two great-grandchildren and five nieces and five nephews.
The funeral will form at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Doane, Beal Ames Funeral Home, Route 28, West Harwich, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Trinity Church, West Harwich. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.
Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home.
