August Schmidt age 63 old resident of San Pierre and vicinity dropped dead last Sunday morning at 11 o'clock on town commons in front of Dolezal's store while returning to Daniel Myers Home. After summoning Dr. Solt to aid of his wife ill. He met Dr. Solt at the filling station at John Boyle Store and sent him to the Meyer home and started back home on foot. He was not seen when he fell. John Dozelal Sr. happen to be in his place of business at the time and spied the figure of a man sprawled out upon the grass upon investigation. He found of body Mr. Schmidt. Dr. Solt rushed to his side. But found life to be extinct. Mr. Schmidt had lived in that vicinity for many years. Having to moved into town from his farm 2 miles North East of town some years ago. He was known as an honest and upright man and a devout Christian. He his survived by his grief stricken wife and one son William of Gary. Funeral service are being held this Wednesday afternoon at San Pierre and interment will be made in San Pierre Cemetery.

August Schmidt was born in Germany July 2, 1865 and departed his life in San Pierre, In. May 19, 1929 at the age of 65, 10 months 17 days. He immigrated to America with his parents at the age of 4 settling on a farm near Wanatah, In. They later moved to San Pierre where he lived until his death.
He was united in marriage in 1886 to Miss Othilia Guse. To this union 3 children were born. Two of whom preceded him in death with their mother.
In 1893 he was united in marriage with Miss Emma Meyer who with his son William survived him. At the age of 16 he became converted and united with the Evangelical Church of San Pierre of which Church he was a member until death.
He was a kind and loving husband and father and also a true friend and neighbor.
Left to mourn his departure are his wife and son William and 2 grandchildren of Gary and host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Zion Evangelical Church of San Pierre. Rev. Clarence Walmer officiated. Interment was made in the San Pierre Cemetery.
