In the 1866 Alabama census, Robert McGehee and William F and William D Bush are neighbors. Handwritten notes by Mrs Robinson at the Anniston Star indicates them good friends and business partners and distant kin.

Mr Bush organized a home guard action and given the rank
of captain near the end of the Civil War. Second wife
Sarah Cobb was first awarded and then later stricken from the pension roll.
