Jack Duane Vance, 85, died July 5, 2007, at Galichia Heart Hospital, Wichita.

He was born August 4, 1921, in Stafford, the son of Coy C. and Nona Jordan Vance. He graduated from Coldwater High School in 1939. A lifetime resident of Coldwater, he was the owner and operator of Vance Tax and Accounting, Coldwater, for over 55 years, and had been the postmaster in Coldwater and a rural mail carrier.

He belonged to the Coldwater First Presbyterian Church, Coldwater Mosonic Lodge No. 295, Coldwater Chamber of Commerce, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kansas and Oklahoma Society of Public Accountants, and the Coldwater Lions Club. He served in the U.S. Army Corps from 1942 to 1945, during World War II.

On August 30, 1941, he married Madeline M. Richardson, south of Coldwater. She died July 18, 2005.

Survivors include: a son, Joe, Coldwater; two daughters, Jacqulyn Vance, Lawrence, and Janice Vance, Wichita; a brother Jim, Claflin; five sisters, Vera Wilkins, Claflin, KS, Virginia Henderson, Salida, CO, Bonnie Bond, Brigham City, UT, Carol Jean Curtis, Castle Rock, CO, and Barbara Hall, Hutchinson, KS; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Diane Vance; and a brother; Jerry Vance.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church, Coldwater; with the Rev. James Ayers presiding. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hatfield-Prusa Funeral Home, Coldwater. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery with military graveside rites.

Memorials may be sent to the Salvation Army or the First Presbyterian Church, both in care of the funeral home.
