Venda Lee Sweet was born as the 4th child of George Wilford Sweet and his wife, Elsie Marshall Sweet on 23 May 1919, in Wellington, Carbon county, Utah.

She had two older sisters, Venice Lavern (1913-1985) and Leone (1914-2000), one older brother, Albert Lavon (1916-1928), and two younger sisters, Erma (1921-1995) and Donna (1924-1991).

On 21 June 1940, Venda Lee married Roy Smith McKinnon in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple. After their marriage, they moved to Tacoma, Washington, an area Roy was familiar with from his years as a missionary for the LDS church.

Venda and Roy had 4 biological children and adopted one girl. Their firstborn child, a son named Marlynn, was born in 1941, and married Karen Hansen. They had one child who died at less than 1-month of age. Marlynn died in 1968 from injuries sustained when he was hit by a train. Roy and Venda's second daughter, Janice, died in her hospital crib a very short time after her birth.

Roy & Venda's first daughter, second son, and adopted daughter are still living.

Venda Lee died in 1 August 1955, in Tacoma, and her marker sits just to the left of Roy's in the Mountain View Memorial Park in Lakewood, Washington, as she was buried at Roy's right. Just to the left of Venda Lee's marker is the marker for their daughter, Janice.
