Grandmother of 39 Passes at Rural Home

Mrs. Martha E. Murphy Dies Suddenly; Last Rites Monday

Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Murphy, 39, well known and beloved resident of Moultrie, Route 4, died Sunday night at her rural home.

She had been in rather feeble health for some time, but the end came as a distinct shock to her many relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Murphy will be held at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon from the Midway Baptist Church, with the Rev. Willie Sellars of Camilla in charge.

Interment follows in Midway Cemetery.

Mrs. Murphy, who was born on September 27, 1854 in Florida, had resided in this area for many years.

She was widely known throughout the county and had the distinction of being the grandmother of 39 and great grandmother of 75 children.

Death came at 10:45 p.m. Sunday, casting gloom over the community in which she had lived.

Surviving are four sons, Robert, W. C., Walter and Charles Murphy, all of the Moultrie area; four daughters, including Mrs. Florence Gay, Mrs. Ruth Sloan, Mrs. Leona Dunlap and Mrs. Mattie Gay, all of Moultrie and vicinity; and 39 grandchildren and 75 great grandchildren.
