U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Yale College in 1801, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1804 and commenced to practice law in Cheshire, Ohio, in 1806. He was a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives in 1810, a member of the Ohio State Senate, (1812-15) and Major General of the 4th Division, Ohio State Militia, in 1816. In 1817, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifteenth Congress, serving until 1819. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a judge on the Supreme Court of Ohio, (1819-32) and again a member of the Ohio State Senate, (1833-34).
