Late Lieutenant Commander, Paymaster in the Royal Naval Reserve, he died of Spanish Flu.He had served for about three years on HMS Brilliant as its Paymaster, and after she was sunk during the Ostend raid, he joined HMS General Wolfe and was onboard when it arrived in Ostend as the Germans left. He left the Navy in December 1918 and returned to his job at the Bank of England for a few short months before being taken ill and dying a few days later.
He left a widow, Jessie Graves, of Wickford, Essex.
He is commemorated as a casualty of the Great War in St Catherine's Church, Wickford and at Wickford Memorial Park.
Place of burial unknown.

His son John, was killed in WW2 when HMS Hood was sunk.
