"Raymond died of wounds received on Bataan one day after he was promoted to Captain. He was the first Clemson Graduate to die in the war. His Clemson ring was removed by a Japanese soldier and pawned. A Clemson graduate discovered and redeemed the ring. It was returned to Clemson, where it now occupies a place of honor." - Clemson Scroll of Honor
