Bodies Of Two Local Soldiers Arrive Friday

Pfc. John E. Raley, Pvt. John "Jack" DeRosa, Both 28, To Be Buried Here


The bodies of two local soldiers Pfc. John E. Raley and Pvt. John "Jack" DeRosa, both 28, who lost their lives during World War II, will arrive here Friday night for reburial services with full military honors.


The Hafer Funeral Home will receive the body of Pfc. Raley, son of Frank W. Raley, 110 Bellevue Street, and the late Clara (Miller) Raley, who died in June, 1944. He was killed in action August 2, 1944, on Guam.


Pfc. Raley entered service in April, 1942, and received basic training at Camp Pickett, Va., before going overseas in February, 1943. He served as a machine gunner in Company A, 307th Infantry, 77th Division.


In addition to his father, he is survived by five sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ravenscroft, Lonaconing; Mrs. Mildred McAteer, Mary, Ida Belle and Shilrey Raley, all at home, and four brothers, Robert, Herman E., James A. and Benjamin Raley, also at home.


Services will be held Saturday at 1:45 p.m. at the Hafer Funeral Home with the Rev. William J. Elliott, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the grave in Hillcrest Burial Park by Fort Cumberland Post No. 13, American Legion.
