Caesar was the son of Sampson and Diannah Alston. He was born into slavery about 1839 in or near Frogmore, Beaufort County, South Carolina. In 1862, with Union troops occupying Beaufort County, SC, Caesar left his home and went to Beaufort, where he found those Union troops and volunteered to serve with them. They were about to be mustered into the service as the 1st Regiment of South Carolina Volunteer Infantry (Colored) U.S.

Gravesite Details

July 2023: No headstone found and no headstone images at the Heritage Center. This cemetery does contain a few unmarked graves/damaged stones. If the grave did have a marker, it probably no longer exists.
