KANNAPOLIS -- Alpha Long Miller, 94, formerly of 1506 Stone Ave., died Tuesday (Jan. 27, 2004) at Transitional Health Services after three weeks of serious illness.

Born Sept. 30, 1909, in Madison County, Mrs. Miller was a daughter of the late Samuel and Callie Bonds Long.

In 1979, she retired after 53 years in the sewing room of Cannon Mills Plant 1. A member of Jackson Park Baptist Church since 1961, she was active with the children's department in earlier years and participated in the Ageless Wonders seniors group. She was a former member of the YMCA Gleaners Club.

A son, Bill Miller, preceded her in death.

Survivors include son Jack Miller, Kannapolis; daughters Sarah M. Bragg and Mildred M. Bibeau, both of Kannapolis, and Jackie M. Cox, Raleigh; sister Nina McNeely, Greenville, S.C.; brother S.A. Long, Commerce, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Jackson Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Sandy Yow. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitley's Funeral Home, and at other times, at the home of daughter Sarah M. Bragg, 1502 Stone Ave.

Memorials: Jackson Park Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1005 Jackson St., Kannapolis, NC 28083.
