From Fulton County, Dies

HICKMAN, Ky., Oct. 19 -- Funeral services for William Boardman Amberg, 76, of Hickman, who leaves an imposing monument to his influence in Fulton County's way of life, were held at 2 p.m. today at t the Amberg residence here.

Mr. Amberg, who was highly influential in the-building of the Mississippi River levee in Fulton County and the floodwall around Hickman, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in the Obion County Hospital in Union City, Tenn.

Mrs. Nanney Boyette of the Christian Science Church officiated at the services and burial was in Hubbard Family Cemetery under direction of Barrett Funeral Home.

An attorney, Mr. Amberg had served as city attorney of Hickman. He was president of the Fulton County Levee Board and head of Planters Gin Company.

He was also a member of the executive committee of the Lower Mississippi Valley Flood Control Commission and was past president of the First Judicial Bar Association of Kentucky.

Also a farmer, Mr. Amberg for years led a drive to build the Fulton County levee and salvage much of the rich Mississippi River Delta farm lands which were not producing due to threat of floods every year.

The levee alone has done much to upgrade the area's standard of living and coupled with the floodwall, which also was completed under the leadership of Mr. Amberg, stands as a monument to the accomplishments of Mr. Amberg for Fulton County, it is said

He attended Brannon Hughes Preparatory School and Vanderbilt University. He was graduated with a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlotte Hubbard Amberg of Hickman; five sons, Fulton County Attorney James Amberg of Hickman, A. A. Amberg of Hickman, W. B. Amberg Jr. of Hickman, Brantly Amberg of Hickman and Charles Amberg of Tampa, Fla.; one daughter, Mrs. Alice Karsner of Lexington, 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
