|Death: ||Jun. 15, 1899|
Henry King is my 3rd Great Grandfather. We do not know the year he was born, we only have an estimated date. The tombstone you have for him shows that he was (?) years; 6 months and 3 days. Is there a way you can see what the # of years are on this photo? The sun is glaring on the page and I cannot tell what it says. Thank you so much. Helen Lehman
We think due to estimates on the USD Census that he was born about 1821. He was born in Richmond County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Dobbins on 22 February 1841 in Westmoreland, Virginia.
Elizabeth was born about 1819 in Northumberland, Virginia. She is also buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa.

According to my date calculator on my "RootsMagic" program shows that is Henry King died 15 June 1899 and was 88 years, 6 months and 3 days old he was born 12 December 1810, not 1815. Can you edit this for me? Thank you again for you time and efforts. Thank you, Helen

THERE IS INFORMATION FROM ANOTHER CONTRIBUTOR THAT DISAGREES WITH THE ABOVE INFORMATION, PROVIDED BY HELEN LEHMAN. I DO NOT PROFESS TO KNOW WHICH INFORMATION IS CORRECT, BUT POST BOTH OPINIONS.
Unless there are 2 Henry & Elizabeth King's buried in Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo, I disagree that this Henry was born in Richmond Va. According to Ancestry.com, a couple of 2nd Cousins and my research, he was born in England approx 1816-1817 and did die 6/15/1889. I know that the tombstone says SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF HENRY KING, DIED JUNE 15, 1899 AGED 88 YRS 6 MO 3 DYS.
Locate Your Ancestors...IowaGravestones.org, but if I blow your tombstone picture up, it could also be read as Age 83 (1816) rather than Age 88 (1819). Henry King married Elizabeth Harris (b. 1816 d. 1891) (Maiden name from Iowa Census of son Dan King-not Dobbins) approx 1835-1836 in England and had 6 children-3 born in England and 3 born in Medina Ohio where he first immigrated in 1848-1849 and then moved to Waterloo sometime between 1861-1869:

This information is also consistent with a second cousin (in law) of mine.
3 of the children are also buried in Fairview Cemetery in Waterloo:
Dan King FAG 66109029
Alfred S King FAG 39811163
Adelaide S King Evely (1857 Ohio-1923 Waterloo) but she is not FAG 74692236 which shows 1896-1920.
The latter 2 married into the Palmer/Hicks family which are direct relatives of my wife.
another son died in Idaho, and 2 daughters have been lost track of in Medina Ohio (probably married and stayed in Ohio).
This second block of information was suggested by Find A Grave member Ross Morton. Thank you
Elizabeth King (1816 - 1891)
Note: Henry has an IOOF (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) insignia, above his name on his monument, honoring his membership in that benevolent organization. Inside the three chain links are the letters F, L and T, (Friendship, Love and Truth).
