Father: Jacob Winters (1835 Overijssel-1914 Friesland, NL)
Mother: Jantje Kollen (1844 Overijssel-1918 Friesland, NL)

Jentje Winters was born in the dairy farmers village Blesdijke in the southern part of the Dutch province Friesland. In 1905 she and some of her brothers and sisters emigrated to the US, arriving by train in Springfield, Bon Homme County, SD and settling in the Platte area, which was a Dutch settlement. On April 22, 1908, she married Feike (Fred) Groen, another immigrant from Friesland, NL. They farmed northeast of Platte in Carrol Township and over a span of sixteen years became the parents of ten children. In 1931 her husband Feike died after an illness, leaving her with the farm and several children still at home. By 1938 her eldest children had already moved to the Ripon area of California where more opportunities existed, and she also moved there with the younger children. At the time of her death at age 71 years, she left ten children and twenty-five grandchildren. Three additional grandchildren were born later.
