Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor recipient. Entered the service at New York, served as a Lieutenant Colonel, 170th New York Infantry. On May 24, 1864 at North Anna River, Virginia, commanding the regiment he kept it on the field exposed to Confederate fire for 3 hours without being able to fire one shot in return because of there ammunition being exhausted. He received his citation on January 15, 1897 and accredited it to the state of New York. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
