ROBERT "KIRK" KIRKLAND, JR. of Dickinson, Texas went to be with the Lord November 15, 2011 at the age of 90 yrs. He was born on December 27, 1920 in Jamestown, Arkansas to Robert and Lena Kirkland. He attended school in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and Galveston, Texas. He moved to Dickinson in 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1940-1945 during WWII. He saw action in the South Pacific, including Iwo Jima, Okinawa.

Bob was employed at Union Carbide in Texas City for 39 yrs., retiring as a maintenance superintendent. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dickinson, and a member of the Carbide Retirees Corps.

He was married to Lovie Walters for 42 years, having five sons. In 1988 he married Josephine Hanna until her death, and in 1996 married Olga Haskovec. They enjoyed many extensive trips, enriching their retirement years. Bob's love in life was his appreciation for music, having played in the high school band and on his ship in the Navy band. He also sang in the choir at First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Olga Kirkland, and sisters Gloann Cole and husband Kenneth of Santa Fe; and Julie Beaver and husband David of Alvin; brother Don Kirkland of Galveston; and all five sons, Bobby and wife Pat of League City; Gary and wife Linda; Richard and wife Virginia; Dennis; Dale and wife Terri, of Dickinson; stepdaughters, Sandra Smith and husband Donald of Galveston; Debbie Simmons of Florida; Janis Haskovec of Houston; and Angela Haskovec of Virginia; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Crowder Funeral Home in League City, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Dickinson with interment following at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 200 FM 517 W., Dickinson, Texas, or the Alzheimer's Association, 2242 West Holcombe Blvd, Houston, Texas 77030
