Mrs. Davis, a resident of Presbyterian Home in Summerville, died on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, in Charleston, SC. Born on September 18, 1924, in Fairfield County, she was the daughter of the late Erskine L. Reed and Viola Robinson Reed, and the widow of Maynard J. Davis, Sr.
She graduated from Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro and attended Winthrop College. She was retired from Fairfield County Schools. Mrs. Davis was a former member of the John Bratton Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Historical Society, and the Anemone Garden Club. She was an active member of Sion Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro. In 2008 the women of the church presented her the Presbyterian Women Life Membership award. She loved God, her family, and her friends and devoted her time and talents to all.
She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and traveling. Her most memorable trip was a 1997 visit to the Holy Land which she shared with her daughter. Survivors include one son, Maynard J. Davis, Jr. of Georgetown; one daughter, Kathy Davis of Charleston; niece Sandra Wilson of Sanford, NC; and nephew Archie Reed of Winnsboro.
She was predeceased by an infant son; two sisters, May Reed and Kathleen Hunt; one brother, Archie Reed; and niece Bobby Jean Brice. Pope Funeral Home is serving the Davis family.
