Major League Baseball Player. For ten seasons (1940 to 1942, 1944 to 1948), he was a pitcher with the Boston Bees/Braves, Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies. Born Nicholas Strincevich, he marked his Major League debut with Boston on April 23rd, 1940 and appeared in 32 games that year, posting a 4 win, 8 loss record. He struggled with an elevated ERA during the early part of his career, however he would stabilize enough to evolve into an effective pitcher and found himself a secure spot within Pittsburgh's rotation from 1944 through 1946. During that period, he yielded his best body of work, as he produced three consecutive double-digit win years, including his career-high 16 victories in 1945. He retired following a brief stint with the Phillies in 1948, compiling a 46 win, 49 loss record, with a 4.05 lifetime ERA, in 889 innings pitched. After his baseball career, he worked for the Budd Company in his hometown of Gary, Indiana.
