Jack L. Nichols, 81, of Mountain Home, Arkansas, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Baxter County Regional Medical Center. Jack was born November 27, 1929 in David City to Floyd F. and Stella V. (Staroscik) Nichols.

Jack graduated from David City High School in 1949; he went on to serve in the United States Navy. He was honorably dischared and returned hom when his father became very ill.

Jack married Rita Heningeer on June 24, 1951 in David City. He began working at Walling Motors in David City and was a member of the David City Vol. Fire Department for many years. Jack started working for the Butler County Rural Public Power District in 1953, he transferred to Stanton in 1965. In 1968 he accepted a position as Systems Control Operator with Northwest Iowa Public Power District in LeMars, IA and continued to work there until his retirement in 1994. Jack retired on his 65th birthday on November 27, 1994 after 41 years in the power industry. Rita and Jack retired to Mountain Home, AR.

Jack was an avid ham radio operator and was a volunteer with the Baxter County Civil Defense. He enjoyed the local gun range as well as fishing. He received his pilot's license at age 16 and continued flying for many years. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mountain Home.

Survivors are: son David (Lola) Nichols of Houston, TX; daughter Diane Butler of Kenner, LA; special friend Rosemary Kirk of Mountain Home, AR; sisters Norma (Don) Woosley of Seward; Ruth Nichols of David City; Virginia (Richard) Rerucha of David City; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister Ilene Boettcher and grandson Adam McNamara.

Interment with Military Honors was in the David City Cemetery, David City, NE.
