According to Josie (Chapman) Sheffield, her grandmother who was Arthur’s mother, Dorothy Alice Chapman, sold her farm in Worth County and bought a farm in Miller County where she lived for several years before moving back to Worth County to live. While she was living in Miller County her sons William Jennings Bryant Chapman married and established a family and later moved to Florida. Arthur’s brothers John Clayton Chapman and Willie Newton Chapman were both widowers whose first wives had died married two fine ladies and lived in Miller County for the rest of their lives and are both buried in Bellview Cemetery in Miller County. Several of Arthur’s siblings lived in Worth County Georgia and when the Miller County folks visited them it was a festive occasion. When the Worth County relations visited their family in Miller County there would be parties for the young ones with the local youth joining in.
Arthur’s brother Whitfield lived in Worth County but while visiting his brothers and sisters in Miller County, two of his daughters, Josie Mae (Chapman) Sheffield and Lydia Elice (Chapman) Sheffield found husbands and made homes in Miller County. Arthur and Gertrude’s home was the center of a lot of entertaining and preparations were made for days, especially at Christmas when relatives always came.
Arthur was a Christian man who lived a good life, loved people, especially his family. All who knew him were his friends, but he was not privileged to live a long life. Arthur died on September 27, 1933; he was only 49 years old.
After his death, his wife Trudie, moved to a smaller house and could not afford to entertain as much but, as long as she lived all of her relatives found a warm spot in her heart.
