Peter L. Bjerken was born at Singaas, Norway 6 Apr 1833. He was the son of Lars and Louise Bjerken. In Norway his name would have been, Per Larssen Engesronningen.

He married Ingeborg Nes, daughter of Petter Grot and Kari Naes in Norway ca. 1856. Ingeborg was born 22 Jun 1836 in Selbu, Norway. She is known to have five siblings: Sigri 29 Mar 1834 – 3 Feb 1920 (Ole Johnson Gaare 26 Aug 1816 – 9 Nov 1904), Ingebrikt Pettersen Melan, Petter Petterson Ness, Zakarias Person and Ole Petterson Ness (Maria "Mary").

Peter and Ingeborg immigrated to America and began farming about 1885. About ten years later in 1895 the state census shows they were in Georgetown Township, Clay County, MN. They were the parents of five children, four of whom survived infancy. They are: John P. Bjerken 15 Jun 1856 – 1939 (Anna 15 Jun 1855 – 1936), Lars Bjerken 1865 – 1948 (Louise), Peter Bjerken 1868 – 1919 and Carrie Bjerken 1877 – 1972 (John Gunderson).

Peter Larson Bjerken began to farm with his son, Peter in Georgetown Township and after a move, about 1897, in Section 28 of Mary Township near Perley, MN.

The father Peter L. Bjerken died in Mary Township 6 Sep 1899. The cause of his death was consumption or TB of the lungs.

Funeral services were held for him at the Bethania Lutheran Church, where they were members, on September 9, 1899. Burial was in the Bethania Cemetery. Peter's grave is UNMARKED.

Ingeborg continued farming with her son, Peter in Mary Toownship. By 1910 Ingeborg had moved to Pembina Township, Mahnomen County and again was living with her son Peter and his family. The 1920 census shows that Ingeborg followed son Peter's family to Marshall County and lived with them for some years. Her son, Peter, had died in 1919. His widow was running a farm and supporting their five children.

Ingeborg passed away at Goodridge, MN 24 Feb 1931 at the age of 94. She is buried at St. Petri's Lutheran Cemetery at Grygla, MN.
