Scimilius was among the earliest white settlers of the Northfield, Waterford, and Sciota area. He came to Northfield from New London County, CT via Ashtabula County, OH. His forefathers had come to the new world aboard the "Elizabeth and Ann" in 1635. In 1856 Scimilius pre-empted a farm in Sciota which was later purchased by his grandson Elbert Bowe.

...Two tombstones, one 78 years old and the other, 90, were unearthed at W. Fourth and the MNS tracks where excavation for an industrial building is under way. It has been found that the remains were moved to Northfield Cemetery some time ago, though the old stones were left behind. Scimilius Lord and Martha Bowe [his granddaughter] both have new stones at the cemetery...
