David was born May 31, 1830 in Virginia, son of Jacob Yakey. He died February 23, 1908 in Vernon County, Wisconsin, aged 77 years, 8 months and 22 days, and was buried there in the Salem Ridge Cemetery.
On September 29, 1867 David was united in marriage to Julia Ann Adams in Vernon County, Wisconsin. Julia was born February 1, 1843 in Ohio, daughter of John Adams and Mary Jane Campbell. She died January 22, 1918 in Vernon County, Wisconsin, aged 74 years, 11 months and 21 days, and was buried there in the Salem Ridge Cemetery. Their eight children, probably all born in Vernon County, Wisconsin, were: Clara, b. 1869; Lucy, b. Feb 1870; Laura, b. 17 Apr 1871; Ira, b. 1874; Harriet, b. 15 May 1877; Bryon, b. Jan 1883; Ozro, b. May 1887; & Clyde, b. Sep 1891.

"He enlisted as a corporal in the 25th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry and was enrolled at Eau Claire in the spring of 1862. The regiment served in the campaigns for Vicksburg, Miss.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Sherman's March through Georgia and the Carolinas.
