Sylvia G. Iverson Barber, 91 of Belvidere and formerly of South Beloit, IL died Sunday, September 3, 2006 in Maple Crest Care Center after a lingering illness.
Sylvia was born November 21, 1914 in Beloit, WI the daughter of Sherman and Alma (Larson) Iverson. Sylvia's grandparents, Styrk and Serina Iverson came to the Jefferson Prairie area from Norway. Sylvia married Ernest "Donald" Barber who predeceased her. Prior to her retirement, Sylvia worked for Gardner-Landis Machine Co. in the blueprint department. She was a member of Hunter United Methodist Church, the secret pals and women circle of the church. Sylvia traveled twice to Norway to visit the original family farm; she was the family historian and the last of her generation.
Survivors include her children, Donald R. Barber of Grand Rapids, MI, Russell L. (Myrna) Barber of Harvard, IL, Clare (James) Hintz of Indianapolis, IN; daughter in-law Maureen Barber of South Beloit, IL; nine Grandchildren; twenty-two Great-Grandchildren; one Great-Great Grandson.
Sylvia is predeceased by her parents, husband; sons Robert Barber and Raymond Barber.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2006 in Hunter United Methodist Church with Rev. Lisa Kruse-Safford, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Belvidere Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6, 2006 in Buck-Wheeler-Hyland Funeral Home, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere.
