Funeral Services for Railroad Crossing Victims
A combined funeral service was held at the La Grange Baptist church, Tuesday, Jan. 2, at 11 a.m. for the following: Paul Franklin Fishback, Mary Bernice Fishback and Nora Elizabeth Schaffer. Bernice and Nora were daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bronestine of La Grange, Mo. Franklin was the son of Henry Fishback of Derrahs, Mo. All three met their death when the car in which they were riding was struck by a Burlington freight train at a crossing near Mark Station about 11 a.m. Saturday, December 30, 1944.
Nora Elizabeth Bronestine, youngest daughter of Arthur and Esther Piner Bronestine, was born near Monticello, Mo., Nov. 26th, 1918, and departed this life Dec. 30th, 1944, at the age of 26 years, 1 month and 4 days. She was married Oct. 13th, 1940, to Millen Lee Schaffer at the Baptist parsonage in Monroe City, Mo., by Rev. L. C. Lemons. To this union were born two children, Carol Lee who is three years old and Charles David who is one year of age.
Besides her bereaved husband and babies she is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bronestine of La Grange, three sisters and one brother, Mildred Schork, St. Louis; Vera Mable Million, Canton; Louise Allen of Huntsville, Mo., and Junior Bronestine of La Grange, also a host of aunts, uncles and other relatives.
