NORWICH - Donald W. Allyn, 80, formerly of Norwich, died on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

Born in Syracuse on Sept. 8, 1931, he was the son of Cecil and Christine (Robinson) Allyn, long-time residents of Norwich. Donald attended schools in Cortland, Sherburne and Norwich, and received degrees at the University of Rochester and the University of Michigan.

Beginning in 1955, Mr. Allyn held various professional positions at the New York Public Library system, where he worked for more than 42 years. He retired in 1998, and was active in volunteer projects, including some sponsored by the Riverside Church, where he was a member.

A committal service will be held at the Mt . Hope Cemetery at 1 p.m.

on Monday, Oct. 24, with the Rev. David Spiegel, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Norwich, officiating.

Contributions in memory of Donald may be made to the First Baptist Church of Norwich, or to a favorite charity.
