"AGED RESIDENT ANSWERS CALL"
Daniel McClain Dies at Hospital Following Long Illness.

"Daniel McClain, an aged resident of Streator, died yesterday at St. Mary's hospital following an illness of over two months. He suffered first from a small sore on one foot and a little later gangrene developed. The doctor in charged decided the leg must be amputated and this was done a few weeks ago. Owing to Mr. McClain's advanced years he was unable to survive the shock and passed away yesterday.
Mr. McClain was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, January 19, 1833, and was married in Lafayette, Indiana to Miss Elsie Shaw on Sept. 24, 1857. They came to Streator about thirty-five years ago, and Mrs. McClain died here three years ago.
Mr. McClain is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Frances Eik, of Obsorkee, Montana, Mrs. Lennie Clark, of Los Angeles; and Mrs. Maude Owen, of Streator. Since the death of his wife he has made his home with Mrs. Owen on the West Side.
The G. A. R. of which Mr. McClain was a member, will have charge of the funeral services, which will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the home of the daughter, Mrs. Frank Owen, 107 South Second Street. Rev. Archer will officiate, and interment will be in Riverview Cemetery."

Daniel served during the Civil war in the Union Army; Company E, 128 Illinois Infantry.
