He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine L. Elmer (May 5, 1920 - June 1, 1992); his second wife, Mildred S. Elmer; and his daughter, Diane Elmer Gary.
He is survived by his daughter, Roz Marcus and her husband, Spence of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his brother, Morty Elmer and his wife, Rita of Los Angeles, CA.
Mr. Elmer was an avid baseball fan and had played minor league professional baseball. He also played in local softball leagues in the Richmond area until he was 60. He was also a winning poker player.
The family thanked the staff at Gayton Terrace Assisted Living and the staff at Henrico Doctor's Hospital for their kindness and caring.
A graveside funeral service was held at 3pm on Sunday, October 30, 2011, at Sir Moses Montefiore Cemetery, 1300 Jennie Scher Road, Richmond, VA.
