Edina. — The judicial seat of Knox County, a city of the forth class, on the Omaha, Kansas City & Eastern Railway, forty-seven miles west of Quincy, Illinois. It was laid out in 1839 by William Smallwood and Stephen Carnegy and became the county seat in 1845. It was incorporated December 18, 1851.

Missouri History Encyclopedia, 1901 Vol. 4
The first lawyers to be admitted to practice before the courts of the county [Lewis] were Thomas L. Anderson, Uriel Wright and Stephen W. B. Carnegy — of whom years later became noted in public life.

SHORT-HAND LOCALS
Col. S. W. B. Carnegy is lying very low with the grip, and at his advanced age — nearly 95 — his recovery is extremely doubtful, though It is hoped his remarkable nervous force may bring him through the crisis and he be spared to live out the century of a lifetime.

Crossed the Dark River.
Tuesday morning at 1 o'clock, at the home of his most faithful, loving daughter, Mrs. S. B. Gibson, in Canton, the immortal spirit of that patriarch in Masonry, Col. S. W. B. Carnegy, took its flight from this earthly tabernacle to the grand temple beyond the surging river.
He was on of the oldest Masons in the United States, and the oldest in Missouri, having been taken into the order in Cynthiana, Ky., In 1820 — 72 years ago. He organized the first commandery of K. T. in Missouri in St. Louis, has been Grand Master of the State (in 1835-36), and a delegate to the national convention at Baltimore. He has always stood high in the council of the order, and having at one time been generous toward the Gr. Lodge of Missouri, that body kindly remembered him in his declining years. He would have been 95 years of age the latter part of this month.
His funeral took place yesterday afternoon, from the Episcopal church where a short service was conducted by Rev. R. C McIlwain of Keokuk, and the concluding ceremonies were performed by Canton Lodge A. F. & A. M., of which the deceased was an honored member.
A delegation of Knights Templar came down from Keokuk and with member of the local commandery acted as escort to the body. The following gentlemen acted as pall bearers: G.W. Patee, J.J. Louthan, J. C. Anderson, Jno. Cherry, R. S. Morris and H. Johnson.
Thus ended in peace the life of a man whose proudest moments was in the success of his beloved order and to which he gave his best and most earnest labors. — He will be cherished in the memory of everyone who knew him as a patriotic American citizen, a wise counsellor, a doting father, and always a kind, true friend and neighbor. Peace to his ashes.
