Johanna Lena Samuelsdotter, daughter of Samuel Andersson and Anna Christina Jönsdotter, was born 13 May 1828 at Norrvära, Värö, Hallands län, Sweden. She married Johan Berndt Johansson (John B. Johnson) on 29 December 1855 in Värö. She arrived with a number of her children in New York on the S.S. City of Richmond on 25 September 1876. She was the mother of seven children, but two of the children (both named Martha Lena) died in Sweden. Johanna died 27 September 1917 in Ludington and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Ludington.

Ludington Dailey News, 27 September 1917, p. 1: "MRS. JOHNSON, AGE 90, PASSES AWAY: LIVED IN LUDINGTON 45 YEARS — Mrs. Johanna Johnson, age 90 years, died last night at the home of her son, Andrew Johnson of 210 east Danaher street. Mrs. Johnson was born in Sweden. With her husband and family she came to Ludington 45 years ago and continued to reside here continually ever since. Mr. Johnson died 24 years ago and the widow had lived with her children since his demise. The children left to mourn her loss are: Mrs. Frank Johnson of Idaho, Mrs. Anna Johnson of Manistee, Mrs. John Anderson of Ludington, and Andrew and John Johnson, both of this city."
