He was appointed Surveyor of Montgomery County, VA in 1791. He later served in the U.S. Army as a Major. In 1814 he moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he was a Director of the Louisville branch of the Bank of Kentucky. He was a Captain in the Kentucky Militia when he died in Virginia.
