A UCLA graduate, Stoloff started his career as a comedy short director for Fox Films, later becoming a feature director and helming western stars Tom Mix and Buck Jones. He also directed a number of musicals for Fox and was a producer/director of programmers at RKO from 1935-39. Stoloff directed 40 films and produced 20.
